Throwing a safe NYE event

A lot of otherwise sensible and staid people use New Year's Eve as an excuse to go absolutely wild. It can be great fun watching people having a good time on New Year's Eve, but as an event organiser I also need to put a lot of effort into making sure that the night is safe for everyone that attends. People don't realise that I spend most of the year getting our NYE events in order, just so that they can have a magical night. This blog is for people organising events like New Year's Eve parties in their communities, who want to ensure the safety of the participants.

Tips For Bands Staging Their Own Gigs

Blog

Many bands are quite content to speak to local promoters and wait until they are offered dates by them for the music venues they book for. Of course, there is nothing wrong with this approach, but it often means that the majority of ticket sales go straight into the promoter's pocket, if not the venue owner. Staging your own event, on the other hand, means potentially breaking into a profit and making more money for your band. What puts off many bands doing this is that they don't have the right equipment and personnel. This is where a full AV hire service can make all the difference. What do you need to know?

PA and Visual Effects Rentals

When you turn to a staging event production firm, you get everything you may need to put on a show. Some will even point you in the direction of other bands who could share the bill with you. Essentially, a full AV hire means you get a suitably sized PA for the size of the chosen venue. This will include a monitor system, power amps, mixing desks and even a sound engineer if needed. Extras like microphones and a backline can be added, too. In terms of the visual effects, you can expect stage lighting in the form of PAR cans and laser lighting effects. Some also provide professional projection screens and other effects, such as dry ice and pyrotechnics. Don't just focus on audio equipment; the visuals are also important.

Staging Equipment

When you put on a gig for your band, the one thing you probably won't have is a stage. Although it is perfectly possible to put on a small concert without a stage, raising yourselves a metre or so will make all the difference to your performance. Unless you find a venue which already has a stage, it is best to hire the staging equipment you may need. This can include barriers to prevent access to the stage, where appropriate, as well as a backdrop and steps up to the stage. Putting together a stage doesn't take long. Most staging systems for events are modular and fit together easily so you can configure them in many different ways.

Take Care of Door Security

Having someone run your door is important when you are acting as your own promoter. Remember that band members cannot do this themselves when they are due on stage to perform, so you will need to pay someone to do it for you. Depending on your crowd, this may mean hiring a security team, too. It really means ensuring that everyone pays for access and has a good time at your event without any unwanted gatecrashers.
